Project Overview

The Development of Local Bamboo Value Chain project aims to establish a sustainable and commercially viable bamboo processing ecosystem in Nigeria. Recognizing bamboo as a versatile and fast-growing raw material, the initiative focuses on its use in construction, furniture production, and artisanal crafts. The project combines infrastructure development with skill-building programs to create a self-sustaining value chain that promotes local manufacturing, entrepreneurship, and rural employment.


Objectives:




  • To establish bamboo processing clusters equipped with necessary machinery and infrastructure.




  • To develop technical skills and capacity for bamboo processing, product design, and fabrication.




  • To promote bamboo as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional construction and furniture materials.




  • To create a sustainable supply chain linking rural bamboo growers, processors, and end-product markets.




Timeline: May 2025 – Ongoing


Location: Abia, Ogun, and Federal Capital Territory (FCT)


Status: 80% completed — cluster infrastructure development is underway, and technical training for stakeholders has been successfully completed.
