PILOT PLANT FOR MANUFACTURING OF ELECTRIC SOCKETS AND SWITCHES

Project Overview

The Pilot Plant for Manufacturing of Electric Sockets and Switches is a strategic initiative under the Presidential Initiatives Project (PIP), aimed at promoting indigenous technology development, industrial diversification, and import substitution in Nigeria’s electrical and electronics manufacturing sector. The project aligns directly with the RMRDC mandate to stimulate industrial growth through research, development, and commercialization of locally available raw materials.

Nigeria possesses the fundamental resources and expertise to establish a robust electrical components manufacturing industry. With the availability of essential raw materials such as plastic polymers, copper, aluminum, and other conductive materials, alongside a pool of skilled engineers and technicians, the country holds significant potential for local production of critical electrical components.

The pilot plant seeks to harness this potential by designing, fabricating, and deploying modern equipment for the production of electric sockets and switches that meet international standards. By doing so, the project will not only reduce dependence on imported electrical fittings but also support the local construction and energy industries with affordable, high-quality alternatives.

The facility will serve as a demonstration and capacity-building center, fostering local content participation, promoting technology transfer, and enhancing industrial innovation. It will further contribute to employment generation, stimulate small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), and create a value chain linking local raw material producers with finished product manufacturers.

Ultimately, the successful implementation of this project will position Nigeria as a key player in the West African electrical component market, reduce capital flight, and strengthen the nation’s drive toward self-reliance and industrial sustainability.
