Project Overview
Nigeria is one of the largest producers of cashew in the world, accounting for 24 billion Naira worth of export, with over 1 million people depending on the industry. Cashew has a variety of industrial uses. Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) is a versatile by-product of the cashew industry, with innumerable applications in polymer-based industries such as friction linings, paints and varnishes, laminating resins, rubber compounding resins, polyurethane-based polymers, surfactants, epoxy resins, foundry chemicals and intermediates for chemical industry.
To promote development along the cashew value chain, RMRDC, in collaboration with some Universities, to established a Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) production plant. To sustain the supply of raw materials for the production plants, the Council has continuously boosted the supply of 15,000 cashew seedlings in parts of the country with competitive and comparative advantage.
