DEVELOPMENT OF ANTI-DIABETIC NUTRICEUTICAL SUPPLEMENT

In sub-Saharan Africa, Nigeria has the highest number of people with diabetes with an estimated 3.9 million people (or an extrapolated prevalence of 4.99%) of the adult population.  In view of this prevalence, the Council developed a supplement for diabetics from Arachis hypogeum. The active ingredient was produced and formulated into capsule and dosage forms. A successful animal trial has been carried out, while the human trials are in progress and expected to be completed soonest
