PROJECT DETAILS: DEVELOPMENT OF GYPSUM SCRUBBER
Following are the details of the project:
Gypsum, which is utilized in the cement and POP production, is 75% imported by the cement industry and 25% sourced locally. One of the reasons for the low local utilization is the attendant high impurity associated with the mined gypsum. To address the issue of impurity and make the nation gypsum acceptable by cement industries, the Council fabricated a scrubber for washing of gypsum to get rid of the impurities. The scrubber which has a capacity to wash 30 tonnes of gypsum per day has been demonstrated, commissioned and being used by Yobe State Gypsum Miners Association. The Council also developed local engineering capacity for the design and development of POP process equipment to promote the development of POP production in Nigeria. This is to ensure the reduction of import substitution of POP by 15-20%. The technology has been patented.
