NEWS DETAILS: RMRDC, MAN PARTNER ON NEEDS ASSESSMENT OF RAW MATERIALS REQUIREMENTS FOR INDUSTRIES IN NIGERIA

Following are the details of the news:

In line with the Federal Government's Agenda to revamp the manufacturing sector of the Nigerian economy and bring about sustainable industrial growth and development, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) have reached agreement to strengthen existing partnerships to carry out industry-specific needs assessment of raw materials requirements for industries in Nigeria as a strategy to addressing the industry needs for which the Council was set up to do

This was made known when the Director General of RMRDC, Professor Martins Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso led a team from the Council on a courtesy visit to the Director General of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr Segun Ajayi-Kadir in Abuja on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Prof Ike-Muonso informed the MAN Boss that RMRDC occupies a critical position in the government's Agenda to revamp the manufacturing sector of the Nigerian economy and bring about industrial development. He stated that RMRDC was established as a result of a meeting organized by MAN to develop local raw materials as inputs for industries and thereby address the raw materials needs of local industries. Over the years, the Council has designed and developed innovative technologies and pilot plants for the processing of raw materials into products that have wide applications in several sectors of the nation's economy, Prof Ike-Muonso stated.

In his response, the MAN DG, Mr Segun Ajayi-Kadir expressed delight that the visit could not have come at a better time. He informed the DG that he had already planned to pay him a visit after he received the news of his appointment but for the nationwide strike by Labour Unions.

He explained that with the huge pressure on foreign exchange by industries, RMRDC has a critical role to play in helping manufacturers source their raw materials needs locally thereby boosting local production and reducing the high demand for forex.

Mr Segun Ajayi-Kadir further informed the RMRDC DG that both the Council and MAN have had long years of mutual collaborations in the area of raw materials sourcing, development and utilisation. He assured that MAN being the umbrella body of industries in Nigeria will always be ready and willing to collaborate with the Council in the actualisation of its mandate of supporting the growth and development of Nigeria's industrial sector through raw materials development.

Both parties agreed to among others; revive the quarterly roundtable meeting between MAN and RMRDC; conduct industry-specific needs assessment of raw materials requirements by industries in Nigeria; organize stakeholders forums to address identified needs of the sectors as well as set up a technical committee for the development of partnership projects between RMRDC and MAN.

Other members on the RMRDC team include: Dr Robert, SA to the Minister FMIST, Mr Abubakar S. Kollere, Director, Planning and Policy Development Department; Dr (Mrs) Udodirim Ugonna, Deputy Director; Planning Division, Mr Ikenna Ajoku an Assistant Director, Raw Materials Information Division.
