NEWS DETAILS: 16TH RIGAN GAMES FESTIVAL - RMRDC WINS BIG

Following are the details of the news:

The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) contingents to the just concluded 16TH Research Institutes Games Association of Nigeria (RIGAN) tagged “Ota 2019” won a total of 7 medals. The games ended with RMRDC winning 2 Gold in Lawn Tennis female single and double, 1 Gold medal in 400 metres, 1 Bronze in male double badminton, 2 Bronze in table tennis single and table tennis mix double as well as 1 Bronze in chess and scrabble.

The biennial games which was declared open by Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonaya Onu charged the various participating institutions to redouble efforts in finding solution to the myriad of problems bedevilling Nigeria through research.

In his remark, the National President of the Association - Professor Rabiu S. Adamu highlighted the cardinal objectives of RIGAN which includes bringing together of various R&D Institutes through sporting activities, providing recreation interaction, friendship among members, achievement of sound mind and body fitness necessary for attaining the set goals for Research and Development,  publicity of R&D institutes and their respective mandates and discovering talent for possible national assignments in sports.

According to him, RIGAN motto has always recognized that a “healthy workforce is a productive force”. This Games festival is unique because it is coming as a huge relief after the postponement of 2017 games festival.

He also commended the host, the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) for its significant contribution both morally and finally towards the development of RIGAN.

The edition of RIGAN was hosted by NBRRI under the leadership of the Director- General, Prof Samo Duna from December 11th to 21st, 2019.
