RMRDC Organizes a Training Programme on Garment Production for Local and International Markets.
The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has organized a training workshop as part of efforts to revamp the textile sector. The workshop, designed to train prospective investors in the area of production of textiles and garments, tagged ‘Entrepreneurship Training on Garment Production for Local and International Markets’, held at the RMRDC House, and Free Trade Zone, Lekki, Lagos, between October 31st and November 1st, 2016.

This is sequel to other areas of intervention in the textile sector by RMRDC, towards keying into the Federal Government 70 Billion naira life line to the sector. The Council has been at the forefront of promoting industrial cotton production in Nigeria and has carried out the following interventions:

• Co – funding the development and official release of three long staple cotton varieties in collaboration with IAR, Zaria
• Support of farmers through the supply of 6 tonnes of improved cotton seeds in 2016 and 4 tonnes in 2016.
• Collaboration with NARICT Zaria and ABU to design and fabricate automated weaving loom for weaving aso oke.
Plans are also under way by RMRDC to implement a national strategic programme that will aggressively increase the cultivation of cotton at the producing zones of the country and also promote investment in the Nigerian garment industry.
